New York Motor Vehicle Accident Law
Today a 22 year old Ramapo college student reportedly crossed lanes onto oncoming traffic resulting in a head on collision. The student was airlifted to a local hospital after police and EMS arrived at the scene. It was still unknown why the student crossed over into the other lane of traffic.
Many people do not know that when a person in New York State is injured in a motor vehicle accident, the car insurance, not the private health insurance, will be initially responsible for paying the medical bills. In this case, the auto insurance for the car the student was driving should be paying the medical bills. However, the car insurance company has to receive a properly completed “No fault” application within 30 days, otherwise, the insurance company can try to disclaim all coverage. Personal injury litigation has many deadlines to file papers. For this reason, it is imperative to find an experienced personal injury lawyer right away when an accident occurs.
